Massage Therapies
Research indicates that massage
therapy alleviates
pain, improves the immune function, reduces
stress and
increases attentiveness in learning. It produces
effects that stimulate the nervous system. It influences
and improves connective tissue, body circulation and muscle
tonification. It also releases toxins built
up in muscles over the years.
Massage therapy has
been found to promote psychological
health, lower blood pressure, support
digestion, breathing and
diminish premenstrual symptoms.
It has
also increased job performance, reduced
the number of headache days in migraine sufferers, reduced
pain and increased range of motion in people
with low
back pain.
Furthermore, it helps
to alleviate depressive symptoms and assists
in overcoming
addiction such as cigarette smoking.
In
short, massage therapy has health enhancing
effects and
should be part of any wellness, fitness or self-improvement program.
WHAT
KIND OF MASSAGE THERAPY IS
RIGHT FOR YOU?
Therapeutic Massage which
creates a beneficial change that
results in a modification of
physical form or function that can affect a client’s
physical or psychological state.
Trigger Points are small areas of
hyper-irritability within muscles.
Treatment involves applying pressure
to specific tension areas causing a release that provides
relief for the client. It promotes pain management anywhere
within the muscular skeletal system.
Deep
Tissue/Neuromuscular Technique
is a form of deep-tissue
massage that relieves pain, reduces
muscle spasms and increases circulation
to the inner part of muscles.
Thoraco-lumbar and Cervical Release
applies gentle pressure to the
fascia and muscle tissue along with specific stretches at various levels of the spine and neck. This type of release is an
effective therapeutic approach to
relieve cervical and back pain, fibromyalgia, scoliosis,
neurological dysfunction, restriction
of motion, chronic pain and headaches. Allowing your spine more flexibility and range of motion to allow easy motion.
Grigorian
Method is based on a combination of joint mobilizations,
stretching techniques and Shiatsu
pressure points that facilitate release
of soft tissue restrictions and increase
joint mobility.
Cranial / Sacral Therapy
is a very soft touch therapy that works
with the membranes and cerebrospinal
fluid that surrounds and protects
the brain and spinal cord. It releases
restrictions in the craniosacral
system to improve the function of
the central nervous system and helps
to re-establish balance and optimum function.
Reiki
centralizes energy flow to stimulate
a specific area of the body or to
strengthen energy and fluid movement
throughout the body. It gives the
body a “Jump
Start” in assisting it to function more proficiently.
There
are different types of massages:
Massage for preventive
general health, relaxation,
pampering or beautification, pain relief,
rehabilitation (for recovery from
physical injury), massage as an adjunct
to medical or chiropractic treatment;
and massage for personal psychological
transformation.
Who should get a massage?
If
you think massage is only for the
rich think again! It is for anyone who
is concerned about improving or maintaining his
or her health. Massage is good for
everyone.
How often should you get
a massage?
Some people prefer a massage every
week. Others find they need a massage less frequently
(bi-weekly, monthly, etc.). Regardless
of how often you receive massage therapy,
it is always beneficial and should
be included as a regular part of your health
program. Your needs will determine how
often.
